Air Quality Health Index information session for Seniors
Please mark your calendar on Thursday, October 14th from 8:30 to 12:00 pm for a workshop on the Air Quality Health Index which will take place at Alderney Gate Public Library, 60 Alderney Drive, Dartmouth.

The Air Quality Health Index or “AQHI” is a scale from 1 to 10+ that measures outdoor air pollution in relation to health risk: the lower the number, the lower the risk. The AQHI is available for Halifax and for other communities in the province.
A focus of this workshop will be the implications of the AQHI for at-risk populations to air pollution, namely people with heart or lung conditions, seniors, children, and people physically active outdoors.
Please visit www.airhealth.ca to learn more about the AQHI or contact Daisy Kidston for more information:

Many C@P sites offer computer training including MS Office, Internet safety, Global Positioning Systems, video podcasting, and web page development. HRCAP provides over 15 full time jobs and injects over $1.7 million in the local economy, annually.

Participants will assess their values and beliefs with regard to family caregiving, examine caregiving issues, and leave with insight about how to modify their practice to better support caregivers.”

GANS online forum project receives funding from NS Dept of Seniors
GANS is pleased and excited to announce that our application to the Nova Scotia Department of Seniors Positive Aging Fund was successful!
The GANS proposal involves development of an online forum section to this website. We aim to create an online forum that is a discussion place fo
r Seniors in Nova Scotia, and anyone who works with or for them. To accomplish this, we are partnering with the Community Access Program (C@P).
C@P will help us deliver not only a useful and engaging online hub for discussions and information sharing, but will assist us in one of the key components to this: two tiers of learning for Seniors – how to use the forum, and how to teach other seniors to us it as well.
With much of Nova Scotia soon to have access to broadband internet service, we think this online forum can be a great way for Seniors to reach out to each other and create online communities for socializing and helping each other.
The GANS board will meet soon to work out the details of implementing this project – so watch this space!
