With the recent tragic circumstance in Clayton Park, http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/…..found.html, I wonder what people think of GPS chip technology being used with persons with dementia? Benefits? Challenges?

Great topic!

I think one of the ways this topic could be handled in the future is to bring this up with patients at the time of diagnosis, and again as the disease progresses. This could allow for informed consent of a GPS chip.

The issue of insering a chip when someone is no longer able to consent would probably then fall to the person who has the legal right to soncent for the patient.

Personally, I have no problem with a chip if people consent to them – they can be lifesavers! I think a lot of resistance comes in around issues of what chips were first used for (tracking animals and even property such as cars) but I can see the benefit, so long as those involved consent.
