NS Alzheimer Conference Call for Presentations

The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia has put out  a call for presentation for their Provincial Conference, November 7-8, 2011:

50% of baby boomers recently surveyed* identified memory loss as a key symptom of Alzheimer’s disease, but were unable to identify any other critical signs. Another 23% couldn’t name any symptoms. Does this surprise you? In what ways does this affect your work?

Dementia is more than memory loss. It progressively affects many aspects of cognition, function, behavior and ability. How can a broader understanding of dementia inform workplace and care practices? How would a greater awareness of dementia impact the work you do in communities across the province? The Alzheimer Society invites you to share knowledge, tools and insights that have made a difference. Give us something to think about!

This conference is aimed at expanding our understanding of the multiple challenges of living with dementia or caring for a person with dementia throughout their journey.

Presentations formats can include: lectures, panel discussions, plays – or any other innovative teaching methods (usually 60 minutes, including Q&A). The Conference attracts an interdisciplinary audience of 300 participants, primarily health care professionals.

The conference committee will review proposals and selection will be based on relevance to theme and target audience. Please submit a one-page description including title, author(s), and abstract (300 words or less), along with your contact information to:
